Before moving an unfinished puzzle, place every loose piece flat and keep completed sections away from the edge. Move the board slowly and keep it level.
For a foldable board, check that no piece crosses the fold before closing it. Store the closed board on a stable surface and avoid adding weight on top.
Keep sorted pieces in trays or small containers. A consistent system makes it much easier to restart after a break.
